About

William Digby was secretary of the National Liberal Club in London from 1882 to 1887. He stood for election as a Liberal candidate for North Paddington in 1885 and South Islington in 1892, both in London, but was unsuccessful both times. During this time he assisted Dadabhai Naoroji in his election campaigns.

Before this, Digby had been a journalist in Sri Lanka in the 1870s, as sub-editor of the Ceylon Observer, and then in 1877 moved to India, where he was editor of the Madras Times. He returned to England in 1879.

In 1889 Digby became secretary to the newly constituted British committee of the Indian National Congress and was editor of their journal, India, from 1890 to 1892.
