About
Sohan Singh Bhullar migrated to Huddersfield in 1956 and began working at the Hepworth Pipe Company.
In 1958 Sohan and his brothers, Bakhshish Singh Bhullar and Mohan Singh Bhullar, opened their first business together, an Asian goods store on 44 Springwood Street, Huddersfield. Several businesses followed that were part of the Bhullar Brothers chain, which became a limited company on 22 October 1964.
In 2003 Sohan and his family became involved in a prominent court case with his brother Mohan and his family. The case concerned conflict of interest in business opportunities related to Bhullar Brothers and is often studied as part of UK corporate law. His brother Mohan won the case.
Sohan helped established the first gurdwara in Huddersfield and helped raise money for the Sikh Leisure Centre, a sports hall and community centre where he became president. In 1965 he became a founding member of the Indian Workers' Association branch in Huddersfield.
