About

Established in 2017 by Sunny Singh, Nikesh Shukla and Media Diversified, the Jhalak Prize was originally a single award given to a book by a UK or Ireland-based writer of colour. In 2020 the prize was expanded to include an award for a children's or YA (young adult) book, and in 2024 it was further expanded to include a poetry award. South Asian British winners include Guy Gunaratne in 2019, Saba Khan in 2022 and Hiba Noor Khan in 2024.
