About
In 1933 Atta Mohammed Ashrif founded Glasgow’s first Muslim association, Jamiat al Muslimin, with the aim to fundraise for the city’s first mosque. In 1944 the organization opened a mosque at a tenement building in 27 Oxford Street. The first floor functioned as a mosque while the downstairs was rented out as a seamen’s club.
