About

Belfast Asian Women's Academy (BAWA) is an organization that aims to empower women to positively impact society. It implements creative programmes to foster better relationships between South Asian and local communities in Northern Ireland. This includes addressing societal issues, such as employment, housing and discrimination. The organization includes a social strand, whereby it facilitates women to take part in sporting and cultural activities. BAWA is also dedicated to advancing and safeguarding the heritage and culture of South Asians living in Northern Ireland.

BAWA was established on 21 January 2019 by Ana Chandran, LLB Hons. It later transitioned into a charity in June 2022. It was originally called Belfast Asian Women’s Association. From six people, the organization had grown its membership to over 250 by 2023, comprising women from all over the world who now live in Northern Ireland.
