About
Praful Purohit was among the first Asian arrivals from Uganda in 1972 following the expulsion, and as a young man he was placed at Tonfanau Resettlement Camp in Wales. He recalls his experiences at the camp and the friendships he formed with volunteers Ron and Angela Isles. He went on to build a successful career in London’s aerospace industry and is now retired.
This interview was conducted as part of the 'British Ugandan Asians at 50' project, led by India Overseas Trust with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project documents testimonies from residents and people who worked in the UK-based camps created for those expelled from Uganda in 1972.
