Part of the external British Ugandan Asian 50 oral history collection

About

Karim Meghji recalls his traumatic childhood memories of being expelled from Uganda in 1972 alongside his family. On arrival in the UK, he was temporarily housed at Tonfanau Resettlement Camp. He later settled in Wales, where he rebuilt his life and came to identify strongly with Welsh culture.

This interview was conducted as part of the 'British Ugandan Asians at 50' project, led by India Overseas Trust with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project documents testimonies from residents and people who worked in the UK-based camps created for those expelled from Uganda in 1972.
