Part of the external British Ugandan Asian 50 oral history collection

About

Harshinder Sirah was among those forced to leave Uganda in 1972. She reflects on her childhood in Uganda and the time she spent with her mother and siblings at the Heathfield Resettlement Camp in Devon before eventually settling in Bristol. She uses her art to explore and process the impact of the expulsion.

This interview was conducted as part of the 'British Ugandan Asians at 50' project, led by India Overseas Trust with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project documents testimonies from residents and people who worked in the UK-based camps created for those expelled from Uganda in 1972.
