Part of the external British Ugandan Asian 50 oral history collection

About

Bina Pepper recounts her experience as a child refugee who fled Uganda in 1972. She was initially sent to Heathfield Resettlement Camp upon arrival in the UK. She reflects on how the trauma affected her family and their search for stability and success within British society, including her eventual return to her roots in Devon.

This interview was conducted as part of the 'British Ugandan Asians at 50' project, led by India Overseas Trust with the support of the National Lottery Heritage Fund. The project documents testimonies from residents and people who worked in the UK-based camps created for those expelled from Uganda in 1972.
